(The Happy Startup School n.d.)

As a Community crime prevention team, it is our goal to prevent crime from different perspectives that exist in crime prevention. In this project, we were required to analyse Starley Cross, point out aspects that may present a risk to society and that somehow allow crime to happen, and later present the objectives we want to achieve, as well as the outcomes of our implementations.

Our team is composed of four members and each one of us has a different area of study within Community crime prevention. The four different roles we represent are based on those different perspectives earlier mentioned which are, Developmental crime prevention, Community crime prevention, Situational crime prevention, and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.

Developmental crime prevention mainly focuses on intervening in the lives of those young people who are more likely to exhibit anti-social behaviour, and posteriorly start engaging in crime (Tremblay and Craig, 1995:151).

When moving to Community crime prevention, it can be said that this perspective focuses more on what people do and in who they are (Jacobs 1961; Shapland and Vagg 1988 in Steventon 2001). Its purpose is to change those social conditions that may allow crime to happen (Hope 1995).

On the other hand, there is Situational crime prevention which focuses on reducing crime through the creation of measures that make an offence less rewardable (Clarke 2010: 4-14).

Finally, there is Crime Prevention through Environmental Design which mainly focuses on reducing crime through the design of urbanised areas (Cozens, Saville and Hiller 2005)

Doing so, each one of us has analysed the community through the respective perspective and we are now going to present various solutions that could decrease the crime levels experienced in the community. After the analysis, we conclude that Starley Cross presents a large number of issues and a high crime rate. Crimes such as burglary, theft, fraud, and forgery are within the most committed, so it is of our importance to tackle those issues the best we can and posteriorly bring a better life for those in Starley Cross.
